Natural History Museum of Crete

The museum, which functions under the auspices of the University of Crete, was founded in 1980 with the aim of researching and managing the natural environment, as well as educating and increasing the awareness of Cretans and visitors.

The Museum of Icons & Heirlooms

The Museum of the Holy Archbishopric of Crete is housed in the Church of Agia Aikaterini (Saint Catherine), which (other than its elegant 17th century entrance-way) dates back to the 15th century.

During Venetian rule it served as a monastery chapel, and was built as a dependency of the Monastery of St. Catherine at Sinai.

The Folklore Museum of Chania was established on the initiative of Aspasia Bikaki and Irini Koumandraki. The Museum is housed in the fortress of Firka, near the the Maritime Museum.

The Municipality of Chania is now active within the field of Culture, especially in Fine Arts. Whatever was for decades only a vision for the people of Chania is now alive thanks to the opening of the Municipal Art Gallery.

A Venetian church, the church of San Salvatore of the monks Frangiskan (15th -17th century) houses the noteworthy Byzantine and post-Byzantine Collection of Chania.

Maritime Museum of Crete

The awarded Maritime Museum of Chania

The Maritime Museum of Crete was opened in 1973 and has received an award for its work by the Historical and Ethnological Society. It is housed at the entrance of the Venetian fortress of Firka, which stands guard over the opening to Chania Harbor.
