Kommos is some 66 km southwest of Heraklion, 11 km southwest of Moires and 3 km from the inland village of Pitsidia. A sandy beach is a continuation of the archaeological site of Kommos to its south (to the site is not allowed to the public); the beach is very affected by the strong winds; however, the rocks at the end of the beach stop the winds and the sea there is somewhat calmer. Close to the inland towns, it is rather organized.
